What does a private geriatrician do in Sheffield, Yorkshire?

A geriatrician is a specialist doctor for older adults who assesses memory problems, Parkinson’s disease, stroke/TIA, falls, dizziness, frailty and complex medical conditions.

Unlike single-condition clinics, a geriatrician evaluates the whole person — including physical health, cognition, medications, mobility and independence — to provide a clear diagnosis and personalised care plan.

Services

What I assess and treat?

I provide specialist Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) for:

  • Memory problems and suspected dementia
  • Parkinson’s disease and tremor
  • Dizziness and balance disorders
  • Falls and mobility issues
  • Stroke and TIA recovery
  • Medication-related problems
  • Frailty and functional decline

👉 Many patients referred for “memory problems” have treatable medical or medication-related causes.

CONSULTANT LED CARE FOR COMPLEX CASES

Why see a Geriatrician in Sheffield?

Older adults often have multiple interacting health issues. A Consultant Geriatrician specialises in assessing and managing complex health problems in older adults, including memory loss, falls, frailty, and multiple medical conditions.

A specialist geriatric assessment:

  • Identifies the underlying cause, not just symptoms
  • Avoids misdiagnosis of dementia or “normal ageing”
  • Reviews medications safely and reduces unnecessary drugs
  • Assesses mobility, falls risk, and functional ability
  • Integrates physical health, cognition, and social factors
  • Provides a clear, personalised care plan

The aim is to provide a holistic, personalised care plan that improves safety, independence, and quality of life.

👉 The key difference

Many services focus on a single issue such as memory. A geriatric assessment ensures that all contributing factors are identified and managed together, leading to a more accurate diagnosis and better outcomes.

CONSULTANT LED CARE FOR COMPLEX CASES

Why choose private geriatrician assessment?

  • More time — typically 60+ minutes
  • Continuity — seen by the same consultant
  • Rapid access — appointments within 24–48 hours
  • Holistic approach — not limited to one condition

👉 Choosing a private geriatrician in Sheffield ensures a comprehensive, consultant-led assessment with a clear diagnosis and practical care plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You can book directly. A GP referral can be helpful but is not required.

A Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is a specialist medical evaluation of an older person’s physical health, cognition, function, medications, and overall wellbeing, designed to identify complex problems and create a personalised care plan.

It goes beyond single-disease diagnosis and focuses on the whole person.

If there is noticeable decline, tremor, slowness of function, forgetfullness, repeated falls, confusion, or increasing dependence, an assessment is recommended.

A detailed review of memory, thinking, physical health, medications and daily function, followed by a clear diagnosis and care plan.

This service assesses not only memory but also physical health, medications, mobility, and daily function — providing a more complete picture.

Fees vary depending on consultation type. Please see the Fees page or contact us.

General geriatric assessment takes about an hour.

If you have memory issues, then, it takes one more hour to interpret, analyse and summarise the Pre-consultation assessment and preparing a final report.

You receive a clear explanation of diagnosis and a detailed written management plan. My recommendation also goes to the GP.

Yes — a detailed consultant report is provided to you and GP.

Yes. Many cases are due to medication effects, depression, vitamin deficiency or other medical conditions.
