WHAT PROBLEMS I SEE

🏷️ Who is this service for?

A Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment aims to identify the underlying causes, reduce risks and support independence. It evaluates the whole person, not just a single condition.

This service is designed for older adults expefincing:

  • Memory problems or suspected dementia
  • Suspected Parkinson’s disease
  • Recurrent falls or reduced mobility
  • Unexplained dizziness
  • Multiple medications causing side effects
  • Loss of independence in daily activities

CONSULTANT LED CARE FOR COMPLEX CASES

👨‍⚕️ Why see a Geriatrician?

Older adults often have multiple interacting health issues. A Consultant Geriatrician specialises in assessing and managing complex health problems in older adults, including memory loss, falls, frailty, and multiple medical conditions.

A specialist geriatric assessment:

  • Identifies the underlying cause, not just symptoms
  • Avoids misdiagnosis of dementia or “normal ageing”
  • Reviews medications safely and reduces unnecessary drugs
  • Assesses mobility, falls risk, and functional ability
  • Integrates physical health, cognition, and social factors
  • Provides a clear, personalised care plan

The aim is to provide a holistic, personalised care plan that improves safety, independence, and quality of life.

🧠 Why private specialist assessment?

  • More time — typically 60+ minutes
  • Continuity — seen by the same consultant
  • Rapid access — appointments within 24–48 hours
  • Holistic approach — not limited to one condition

👉 The key difference

Many services focus on a single issue such as memory.

A geriatric assessment ensures that all contributing factors are identified and managed together, leading to a more accurate diagnosis and better outcomes.

WHAT PROBLEMS I SEE

🔍 How is Geriatrician-led memory clinic different from a Psychiatrist-led memory clinic?

A Psychaitrist-led memory clinic focuses mainly on diagnosing dementia.

A geriatrician takes a whole-person approach, assessing not just memory but also:

  • Physical health and frailty
  • Falls and mobility
  • Medications and side effects
  • Blood pressure and cardiovascular issues
  • Mood, sleep, and functional ability

Many older adults have multiple interacting problems, not a single diagnosis.

👉 This approach leads to a more accurate diagnosis and safer, practical management plan, especially in complex cases.

Many patients referred in my clinic for “memory problems” actually have underlying medical or medication-related causes — which require specialist geriatric assessment.

❓Frequently Asked Questions

A geriatrician specialises in the care of older adults, particularly those with multiple health conditions, frailty, or cognitive problems.

I offer a comprehensive and holistic assessment for memory concerns, cognitive decline, and geriatric issues including falls, frailty, Parkinson’s disease, continence problems, and TIA/stroke recovery.

If there is noticeable decline, tremor, slowness of function, forgetfullness, repeated falls, confusion, or increasing dependence, an assessment is recommended.

No referral is needed. You can book directly. But, a referral from GP helps which provides your medical history, recent tests result and current medications.

This service assesses not only memory but also physical health, medications, mobility, and daily function — providing a more complete picture.

Appointments are usually available within a couple of days in a clinic. In an urgency, you can be seen at home within 24 hours.

You receive a clear explanation of diagnosis and a detailed written management plan. My recommendation also goes to the GP.
