Areas I specialise in

What I do?

Older adults rarely have a single problem. Memory issues, mobility difficulties, medications and physical health often interact.

As a consultant geriatrician, I provide comprehensive assessment of the whole person, ensuring accurate diagnosis and a clear, practical care plan.

CONSULTANT LED CARE FOR COMPLEX CASES

Why see a Geriatrician?

Older patients often present with multiple interacting conditions, which can be difficult to diagnose and manage in single-condition clinics.

A geriatrician:

  • Takes a holistic, systems-based approach
  • Identifies underlying and reversible causes
  • Reviews medications in detail
  • Assesses cognition, mobility and independence
  • Integrates physical, cognitive and functional health

This leads to more accurate diagnosis and safer, more effective treatment.

👉 The key difference

Many services focus on a single issue such as memory. A geriatric assessment ensures that all contributing factors are identified and managed together, leading to a more accurate diagnosis and better outcomes.

The assessment, diagnosis, prescribing of medication and written report to the GP was completed within the same day. This has come as such a relief after battling for three years on the NHS. We had a couple of queries following the initial consultation and these were dealt with quickly and efficiently via WhatsApp.

Dr Jah has been excellent in helping my mum, from our initial assessment 6 months ago he made us feel at ease. Diagnosed condition straight away, prescribed medication and continued with follow up assessments. At the 6 months review today, she told Dr Jah how she had felt like a different person, I’ve had my mum back. Could not recommend enough.

Dear Dr Jha, on behalf of myself and my wife Monica, we would like to thank you for your swift response to our call during what was an extremely difficulty time. Your visit to our home to see me personally, in a most kind, understanding and professional manner, which put me at ease knowing you were understanding of my problem. It was a blessing to receive medication swiftly together with appropriate scans. Once again my grateful thanks. John Slater. Dr Jha thank you for once again for your thorough kindness, care, thoughtfulness and invaluable advice at my recent re-assessment appointment, and the most encouraging result. Kind regards John Slater,

My Mum and I went for an appointment with Dr Jha. I am so happy with our experience. Dr Jha communicated with us shortly after the appointment was booked and was very quick to reply to messages I had sent him. When we attended Thornbury Dr Jha was really nice in person and I felt he really listened to our concerns and was very respectful, kind and reassuring to my Mum. He was thorough with his assessment and the outcome was very positive. Treatment was initiated. He outlined a very clear plan of our follow ups and very soon after our consult we received a full written report which clearly reflected accurately all we had discussed. I would definately recommend anyone to see Dr Jha. We are very happy with everything he has done for us so far. Many thanks.

★★★★★ I found the consultation very helpful. The consultant explained my osteoporosis in the context of my own case, including how severe it is, which I hadn’t fully understood from my previous NHS appointments. He also gave clear guidance on how to monitor my condition over time and interpret future results, which has given me a much better understanding of my osteoporosis and put my mind at rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You can book directly. A GP referral can be helpful but is not required.

A Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is a specialist medical evaluation of an older person’s physical health, cognition, function, medications, and overall wellbeing, designed to identify complex problems and create a personalised care plan.

It goes beyond single-disease diagnosis and focuses on the whole person.

If there is noticeable decline, tremor, slowness of function, forgetfullness, repeated falls, confusion, or increasing dependence, an assessment is recommended.

A detailed review of memory, thinking, physical health, medications and daily function, followed by a clear diagnosis and care plan.

This service assesses not only memory but also physical health, medications, mobility, and daily function — providing a more complete picture.

Fees vary depending on consultation type. Please see the Fees page or contact us.

A detailed holistic review of memory, physical health, medications and function, followed by a diagnosis and care plan.

General geriatric assessment takes about an hour.

If you have memory issues, then, it takes one more hour to interpret, analyse and summarise the Pre-consultation assessment and preparing a final report.

You receive a clear explanation of diagnosis and a detailed written management plan. My recommendation also goes to the GP.
