I’m Dr Pravin Jha, a consultant geriatrician and memory specialist. I assess older adults privately at Spire Claremont Hospital, Circle Thornbury Hospital and LivingCare in Sheffield, at home, or by video anywhere in the UK. Why a geriatrician

One assessment that looks at everything, not one symptom at a time

Many clinics look at a single problem, such as memory. In later life, problems rarely come alone. A change in memory may be driven by medicines, low mood, poor sleep, hearing loss, infection or small strokes. Falls may come from blood pressure, heart rhythm, weak bones, eyesight or medicines.

A Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment brings these together. I review each area, find what is contributing, and agree one plan with you and your family, so treatments don’t work against each other.

What I assess

If sudden limb weakness, facial droop or speech difficulty is happening now or has just happened, call 999 immediately, even if the symptoms improve. Do not wait for a private appointment. NHS advice on TIA symptoms.

What happens

From first contact to a written plan

  1. Get in touch

    Call, or send the booking form. No GP referral is needed. We reply usually within 24 hours.

  2. Questionnaires at home

    For memory assessments, you and someone who knows you well complete short questionnaires before the appointment. I review them in advance.

  3. Your consultation

    In clinic, at home or by video. A family member is welcome and often helps. I arrange any tests you need.

  4. Report and plan

    You receive a clear explanation and a written report. A copy goes to your GP, so your care continues joined up.

About me

Why patients and families come to me

I’m a consultant geriatrician at Rotherham General Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, with more than 20 years’ experience caring for older people. I have examined for the MRCP clinical examination (PACES) for around ten years.

In my private practice I give each person the time a complex picture needs. I explain what I find in plain language, involve the family where you would like me to, and write to your GP so that the plan continues after you leave.

Common questions

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly. A GP letter can be helpful, but it is not required.

How quickly can I be seen?

Usually within 24–48 hours. Home visits can often be arranged the same day.

What is a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment?

It is a specialist review of an older person’s physical health, memory and thinking, mood, medicines, mobility and daily function, carried out together. The aim is to find every contributing problem and agree one personalised plan.

How much does a consultation cost?

A new clinic consultation (60 minutes) is £400. A memory assessment is £800 in clinic or from £900 at home. A new home visit (60 minutes) is from £500. Home visit total fee depends upon distance and consultation duration. A new video consultation (30 minutes) is £300. All fees include a report to your GP.

Can I use my health insurance?

No. I am not registered with medical insurance companies, so all consultations are self-pay.

Can a family member come with me?

Yes, and for memory assessments it helps a great deal. Someone who knows you well can describe changes you may not notice yourself.

Will my GP be told?

Yes. After every consultation I send a report to your GP, and you receive a copy.
